The HPE Collective

We bring together HPE teachers in a supportive community where collective knowledge is valued. We envision a vibrant online community where the HPE community can connect, share, and grow.

The HPE Collective is a social learning community where connecting, sharing, and growing are our core values. Most of the content generated on our site is from members who share resources and practices from their classrooms, poll the community to start conversations or record long-form content to help others grow their pedagogical practices. Our members are taking control of their professional learning journey. Here are some highlights from the community.

Session Recap | Using Democratic and Reflective Approaches to Build Community and Belonging in PE

Before I start this reflection, I know some of you are here to access my conference slides. My slides are linked at the bottom of this page, but first I'd love to share some stories from my IAHPERD experience.  "If you hang around the barber shop long enough, sooner or later you're going to get a haircut." Mark Housel is a super communicator an...

PE for All | Making PE a safe, inclusive, and equitable space

What does it mean to be 'good at PE'?   Who would your students point to in their class as being the 'best at PE' and why? PE has long been a great part of school life for SOME students. For others, there is long standing evidence that it can be at best, unpleasant and at worst, traumatic. Minoritised groups remain under-represented and under-s...

Updating Health Units to Align with the New NHES

This is my latest email newsletter that went out this week: As the school year goes on, I've been revamping my units to align with the National Health Education Standards (NHES), which were updated in the spring. In today's short email, I mourn the loss of an oft-used performance indicator and celebrate its replacement. The Old NHES In my units ...

The HPE Collective Partnership Program

The HPE Collective could not do its work without the support of our growing list of community partners. Our partners have generously supported the financial needs of The HPE Collective to ensure that HPE teachers have a virtual community that is protected from the outside noise of social media.

Here is a holiday physical activity resource from our partners at miMove.

Keep Our Network Free!

The HPE Collective is a free social learning community. Our generous partners helped us get the network started, but we are always grateful for any support we can get.

You can support our network by buying apparel from our merchandise store. Click the link below to buy your HPEradio logo shirt. More designs are on their way soon. Thank you for supporting the hard work that goes into building a thriving ecosystem for health and physical educators.

The Road to a 1,00 Member Community I remember when I opened The HPE Collective on June 26, 2024. I was anxious because running a business is foreign to me, but I was deeply motivated to do something that would have a lasting impact on the HPE Community. Years ago, it seemed that we could all connect, share, and grow on traditional social media platforms. Over time, we've seen the erosion of those platforms, their algorithms, and their content moderation. X became so toxic in 2024 that many...

We get better, together. At The HPE Collective, we bring together motivated educators who are passionate about improving their craft. We are committed to elevating the profession of Health and Physical Education through the power of community and ongoing professional development. Join the Movement New in The HPE Collective Stop asking young people how they are feeling There is a growing trend of schools using a range of check-in apps to ‘support young people’s mental wellbeing’. This may be...
